Minitrue

I could be economical with the truth and assert quite falsely that the above representation is of the remnants of a rather fine curry and rice penned by my own hand last night. It would be, in short, a lie, as it was from M&S [apart from the Ahmed's Lime Pickle on top]. A rather insignificant white lie, perhaps, but an untruth nevertheless, and I would have felt guilty about such a misleading assertion. But in truth, illogically, I know, the untruth is the stock in trade of the world: the planet is governed on the fuel of baseless falsities; the wheels of politics are greased by porkies, as is big business and its slick supporting partners, advertising, social media, and false rumour.

Nowhere, of course is that more in evidence than in the case of the US Presidency and current geopolitics in general. The wish fulfilment modus operandi of the '... if I voice it, it must be true, and damn the lot of you who question my integrity ...' brigade has become the de facto tool of choice for every despot, failed businessman and querulous, ineffectual politician across the globe. Which is why we are where we are. We turned over the reins, keys to the coffers and bastions of power to charlatans, fools and psychopaths; and for why? Because the level of political and critical awareness amongst the general populations of most 'democratic' countries has generally amounted to '"... because I like [the bloke (the leader of the party, not the actual candidate)]..."' in answer to the obvious question "Why did you vote for [that particular party]...?". A comment that was actually reported on TV news in the wake of the recent by-election in Gorton and Denton, here in the UK.

Fortunately the 'bloke' in question's party didn't win, as did none of the major UK parties: everyone fortunately was utterly sidelined by The Greens, which goes some way to show that some people are starting to realise that there are some sane alternatives out there to the career politicians, mendacious toads and utterly fake 'blokes' that make up so much of what passes as 'politics' and who are prepared to sacrifice morality at the altar of Mammon to serve their own career longevity. Here in the UK we're a long way off Trump and Putin's crowd of autocrats, but the slippery slope continues to get slimier and it will soon get to the point where the lack of friction will make a return ascent impossible. And then truly, God help us...
